Community organisations show solidarity with LGBTQIA+ people seeking protection during summer of racist unrest in N.Ireland.
Unsurprisingly, the summer was a really tough time for our Rainbow Refugees. Racist protests and attacks left some people so scared that they couldn’t leave their homes, even for essential supplies.
Thankfully, the amazing ALLIANCE FOR CHOICE were quick to offer financial support to Rainbow Refugees participants in distress. This practical initiative helped us to quickly provide food, data vouchers and toiletries when they really needed it. It was also a hugely meaningful expression of solidarity.
“I want to thank you today for the groceries and delivery, it helped and eased my heart from getting scared to get them…Thanks to your service to humanity!”
The equally wonderful HERE NI organised a solidarity fundraiser for us and together with ALLIANCE FOR CHOICE, we received £2000 in donations. These funds will support our work through the winter to provide some much-needed comfort and treats to our participants.
Rainbow Refugees NI extends a massive thanks to everyone who stood up and protested racism, challenged divisive rhetoric, anyone who donated, anyone who reached out to check in, and to any organisation that has helped though offering love, time, funds and space, including FLAX STUDIOS, ORMEAU COMMUNITY CINEMA, SHOW SOME LOVE, US FOLK, PAPERXCLIPS (to name a few).
Your kindness and solidarity has shown Rainbow Refugees that they are not alone and that they are loved.
